Hamilton Community Consolidated School District 328 Board met March 21.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

Call to Order:

President Starr called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm.

Pledge of Allegiance:

The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call:

On roll call, the following board members answered present: Capaldo, Dupree, Hartweg, Hopp, Starr, and Summers. Six members were present. Hempen was absent.

Others present were: Joe Yurko, Eric Bryan, Shelli Jennings, Carol Mullens, Jessica Kohlmorgan, Kelly Celania, Cassie Dietrich and Emma VanArsdale (Daily Gate City).

Opportunity for Citizens/Visitors to Speak:

No one spoke to the board.

Executive Session:

A motion was made by Dupree and seconded by Hartweg to enter into executive session to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. Roll call: Capaldo, yes; Dupree, yes; Hartweg, yes; Hopp, yes; Starr, yes; Summers, yes. Motion carried: 6-0

Return to Open Session:

A motion was made by Summers and seconded by Hopp to return to open session. Roll call: Capaldo, yes; Dupree, yes; Hartweg, yes; Hopp, yes; Starr, yes; Summers, yes. Motion carried: 6-0

Consent Agenda:

A motion was made by Summers and seconded by Hartweg to approve the consent agenda: a. payroll and bills; b. approve minutes from regular meeting on February 21, 2018. Roll call: Capaldo, yes; Dupree, yes; Hartweg, yes; Hopp, yes; Starr, yes; Summers, yes. Motion carried: 6-0

Superintendent's Report:

Overnight Trip-

Ben & Bailey Hollis qualified to advance in the WYSE competition. The superintendent is asking for board approval for the overnight trip, so they can participate.

Overnight Trip-

The superintendent is asking for board approval for the overnight trip for Mr. Neill to take a group of students to the ICTM Math Competition in Champaign, so they can participate.

Mowing & Trimming Bids-

Bids are included for board review. We received four bids. The low bid is from CSW, from Montrose, lowa.

Western Division Spring Dinner Meeting Update-

Matthew Starr and Nick Capaldo shared topics from the Western Division Spring Dinner Meeting.

School Calendars-

There are two calendars to review. The 2017-2018 calendar and the 2018-2019 calendar draft. We will present them at the April board meeting for approval.

Roof Update-

The insurance adjusters examined the high school roof damages. The roof coating contractor's bid is in the board packet for review.

Principals' Reports-

Elementary: Mr. Bryan thanked Mrs. Jennings & Mr. Lawson for inviting the elementary school students over to watch a preview of the junior high play. The trip was used as a behavior incentive over a 2 week period, rewarding students who demonstrated respectful habits on a daily basis. Thanks to Mrs. Congdon for getting them shuttled back & forth between the buildings. March 15 & 16 was Parent- Teacher Conferences, Kindergarten Roundup and Pre-K Screenings. Junior High track season is underway. There are 29 5th & 6th grade students out for track.

Jr.-Sr. High: Mrs. Jennings reported that PARRC testing for 7th & 8th grade students was March 13-15. Thanks to all the staff and especially Mrs. Whitaker for her organizational skills. Parent-Teacher Conferences were March 15 & 16. 3rd quarter honor roll, 48% of students averaged an A or B. Coach Neill, his staff and his players hosted the "Late Night with the Lady Titans" on March 16. There were 70 students in grades 1-8 who signed up for the event. 1st-4th grade students stayed up until 10:00 pm and the 5th-8th grade students stayed up all night in the gym playing basketball & having activities with the girls on the high school basketball team. WYSE finished 3rd in the sectional on March 13. Ben Hollis earned 2nd place in biology and 3rd place in engineering graphics. Baily Hollis earned 2nd place in math. Both students qualified to compete in the state competition on April 18. Junior high and high school drama productions were both this month. Ms. Twaddle and Mr. Lawson both did a great job. SAT testing is April 10 for all juniors.

Approve Overnight Trip Request:

A motion was made by Hopp and seconded by Hartweg to approve the overnight trip request for WYSE team on Wednesday, April 18. Roll call: Capaldo, yes; Dupree, yes; Hartweg, yes; Hopp, yes; Starr, yes; Summers, yes. Motion carried: 6-0

Approve 2018 Mowing and Trimming Bid:

A motion was made by Summers and seconded by Hopp to approve the 2018 mowing and trimming bid from CSW, from Montrose, lowa for $340.00 per mow. Roll call: Capaldo, yes; Dupree, yes; Hartweg, yes; Hopp, yes; Starr, yes; Summers, yes. Motion carried: 6-0

Accept Resignation:

A motion was made by Capaldo and seconded by Hartweg to accept the resignation from Melissa Klauser as assistant junior high track coach. Roll call: Capaldo, yes; Dupree, yes; Hartweg, yes; Hopp, yes; Starr, yes; Summers, yes. Motion carried: 6-0

Hire Assistant Junior High Track Coach:

A motion was made by Summers and seconded by Dupree to hire Natalie Cumbie as assistant junior high track coach. Roll call: Capaldo, yes; Dupree, yes; Hartweg, yes; Hopp, yes; Starr, yes; Summers, yes. Motion carried: 6-0

A motion was made by Dupree and seconded by Hartweg to hire Cassie Dietrich as a High School Art Instructor for 2018-2019. Roll call: Capaldo, yes; Dupree, yes; Hartweg, yes; Hopp, yes; Starr, yes; Summers, yes. Motion carried: 6-0

Hire High School Industrial Arts/Social Studies Instructor 2018-2019:

A motion was made by Hartweg and seconded by Summers to hire Jason Timerman as a High School Industrial Arts/Social Studies Instructor for 2018-2019. Roll call: Capaldo, yes; Dupree, yes; Hartweg, yes; Hopp, yes; Starr, yes; Summers, yes. Motion carried: 6-0

Hire High School Physical Education Instructor 2018-2019:

A motion was made by Capaldo and seconded by Summers to hire Shelby Koehler as High School Physical Education Instructor for 2018-2019. Roll call: Capaldo, yes; Dupree, yes; Hartweg, yes; Hopp, yes; Starr, yes; Summers, yes. Motion carried: 6-0

Hire High School Business/Social Studies Instructor 2018-2019:

A motion was made by Hartweg and seconded by Dupree to hire William Schaffer as High School Business/Social Studies Instructor for 2018-2019. Roll call: Capaldo, yes; Dupree, yes; Hartweg, yes; Hopp, yes; Starr, yes; Summers, yes. Motion carried: 6-0

Approve Board Policy Updates 2:260, 4:40, 5:20 and 5:200:

A motion was made by Summers and seconded by Hopp to approve the board policy updates 2:260, 4:40, 5:20 and 5:200. Roll call: Capaldo, yes; Dupree, yes; Hartweg, yes; Hopp, yes; Starr, yes; Summers, yes. Motion carried: 6-0

Approve FMLA Request:

A motion was made by Capaldo and seconded by Dupree to approve the FMLA Request for Amanda Mason. Roll call: Capaldo, yes; Dupree, yes; Hartweg, yes; Hopp, yes; Starr, yes; Summers, yes. Motion carried: 6-0

Approve Amended 2017-2018 School Calendar:

A motion was made by Hopp and seconded by Summers to approve the amended 2017-2018 school calendar with snow days. Roll call: Capaldo, yes; Dupree, yes; Hartweg, yes; Hopp, yes; Starr, yes; Summers, yes. Motion carried: 6-0

Correspondence:

There is no correspondence.
