Cost of college went up for all students at Western Illinois University

Tuition and fees rose 1.9 percent for 2017-18 at Western Illinois University, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

Illinois students paid $12,897 to attend the four-year public institution this year $242 more than the $12,655 charged for 2016-17.

Data shows 87 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,160 students received grants or scholarships totaling $10.22 million and 1,057 students took out student loans totaling more than $8.02 million.

Including all undergraduates, 7,030 students used grants or scholarships totaling $53.85 million. Another 6,380 took out $48.63 million in federal student loans.
