Passavant Hospital issued the following announcement on June 21.
US Bank Wealth Management will honor the memory of Leland Capps with a special blanket presentation to Passavant Area Hospital whose patients benefit from a trust established by Capps 75 years ago. The presentation is 3 p.m. Thursday, June 21, in the main lobby at Passavant.
Leland Capps, grandson of Joseph Capps, established the trust in honor of his parents, Joseph L. and Ella Tandy Capps. Joseph Capps founded the woolen mill company, J. Capps and Sons, in 1838. Funds from the trust are used to assist Passavant patients who cannot afford medical services.
“Mr. Capps named Passavant as a beneficiary of his trust to help people in the Jacksonville community,” said Pam Martin, executive director of the Passavant Foundation. “We are pleased to use the funds as he directed and continue the Capps family legacy.”
The Capps factory, located on West Lafayette Street in Jacksonville, produced finished wool goods, including native American Indian blankets, overcoats and men’s suits. The factory closed in 1988.
The blanket being presented to Passavant is a Pendleton reproduction of an American Indian blanket.
