City of Dallas Center City Council met June 27.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

The Dallas City City Council held its regular meeting on June 27, 2018, at 5 p.m. Mayor Kevin Six called the meeting to order with the following commissioners present: Lila Gittings, Esther Newberry, Harold Northup Jr., and Greg Olson.

Others attending the meeting were Anne Thompson and Wayne Lebeck.

A motion was made by Olson, and 2nd by Newberry to accept the minutes of the June 13, 2018, meeting. Gittings, Newberry, Northup, and Olson Aye.

Wayne Lebeck asked about getting some gravel along the edge of West Fourth Street in front of his house and on the Sycamore Street easement south of West Fourth Street by the water booster station. The council would like to wait to address the problem on West Fourth Street until after the sewer project work along West Fourth Street has been completed. They also do not feel that it would be feasible to put gravel on the Sycamore Street easement due to the fact that it will just wash away. Mr. Lebeck asked about changing the grade of the street and opening the ditch along it so that the water will run to the west, instead of the east. Street Commissioner Olson and the city's streets employee will look at this to see if it appears that this can be done so that the problem can be resolved.

Anne Thompson asked about the city's ordinance regarding fireworks.

Discussed buildings in town that have windows missing.

Discussed the cemetery mowing. It appears that the mowers are doing a good job so far this year.

Discussed a grave stone that appears to need to be moved.

Discussed a tree along West Third Street that needs to be removed. Due to an agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation, it is the city's responsibility to remove it.

The city has received a check from the State of Illinois for $101,020.64. This is part of the Illinois EPA Loan for the construction of the sewer project. This money reimburses the city for the engineering fees and attorney fees that have been paid so far for the sewer project.

Mayor Six has contacted PSBA about delaying the oil and chipping of the city streets until the sewer project has been completed along the streets that are scheduled to be done this year. He has been told that this should not be a problem. Mayor Six will also contact the engineer to see if the sewer project bid included the repair of West Fourth Street after the sewer work has been completed.

Mayor Six has been told that property owners of ground in Iowa along the Mississippi River across from Dallas City are trying to get their levee raised to the 500 year flood level, plus an additional four feet. He will look into this as this could create some major flooding issues for the city.

It was reported that six new 35 gallon trash containers have been ordered from Wausau Tile Inc. The cost is $299 per container plus $178.03 for shipping. They should arrive by the middle of July.

A motion was made by Gittings, and 2nd by Newberry to pass Ordinance #644, Ordinance to Adopt Prevailing Wages for 2018. Gittings, Newberry, Northup, and Olson Aye.

A motion was made by Newberry, and 2nd by Northup to adjourn the meeting. Gittings, Newberry, Northup, and Olson Aye.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:55 p.m.
