City of Dallas City Council met Sept. 26.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The Dallas City City Council held its regular meeting on September 26, 2018, at 5 p.m. Mayor Kevin Six called the meeting to order with the following commissioners present: Lila Gittings, Esther Newberry, Harold Northup Jr, and Greg Olson.

Others attending the meeting were Anne Thompson and Kenny Foster.

A motion was made by Newberry, and 2nd by Olson to accept the minutes of the September 12, 2018, meeting. Gittings, Newberry, Northup, and Olson AYE.

Anne Thompson requested that the minutes show that the old cleaners building on Oak Street next to the railroad tracks is the building that she was discussing at the August 8, 2018, council meeting.

Commissioner Newberry reported that water shut offs for non-payment were done this week.

Commissioner Gittings reported that Fall Clean-Up Days have been scheduled for October 11-14.

Discussed the railroad crossings in town. The Pine Street crossing was closed on Monday and is still closed. Mayor Six has spoken to the local road master, and she told him that she hopes to have a crew in town to work on the crossing on October 1.

A portion of West Third Street (Illinois Highway 9 & 96) is scheduled to be closed for a few days, starting October 1, so that work on the sewer project can be done.

Discussed putting in a sidewalk at the east side of the Dollar General store. Mayor Six has spoken to the local store manager, asked her to contact her boss, and have her boss contact him so that they can discuss this matter.

Discussed the speed limit in the west end of town.

Discussed the properties at 70 East Fifth Street and 57 East Fourth Street. The city attorney has not contacted the city regarding the September 13 pre-trial conference that was scheduled for the property at 70 East Fifth Street. The pre-trial conference for the property at 57 East Fourth Street is set for October 18.

Discussed the old police station building on Oak Street and getting bids for a new garage. Also, discussed getting bids for a couple of car ports as an alternative to building a garage.

Commissioner Northup reported that the Illini West High School would like to put up a 2' X 4' sign by each of the “Welcome” signs in town. The council has no objection to this. Commissioner Northup will look to see where these signs could be located.

Discussed trees around town that need to be removed. Mayor Six will contact some people that do tree work to see if they would be interested in getting the city an estimate.

Discussed the problem of people taking boards with nails in them to the city's burn pile. Also, discussed residents burning trash and possibly having the city provide trash service for residents for a monthly fee.

A motion was made by Northup, and 2nd by Newberry to adjourn the meeting. Gittings, Newberry, Northup, and Olson AYE.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:52 p.m.
