Beardstown Park District Board met Sept. 28.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The September meeting of the Beardstown Park District board of commissioners was held on September 28 at the Schewe Community Center. Bob Schaefer called to order and roll was taken. Commissioners present included Becky Jones, Larry Kight and Bob Schaefer. Also in attendance were Park Director Jason Brockschmidt and Secretary-Treasurer Julie Robertson.

The minutes of the August meeting were approved on a motion by Mr. Schaefer and a second by Mrs. Jones.

The treasurer’s report was approved on a motion by Mr. Kight and a second by Mrs. Jones. The claims list was approved after a motion by Mrs. Jones and a second by Mr. Kight.

Mr. Brockschmidt then presented the directors report. He announced that tackle football was more successful than in the past, and made a profit this year unlike previous years in which it either broke even or was a loss. Tumbling, dance and adult fitness continue this fall and the women’s volleyball league will begin in October. Mr. Brockschmidt also informed the board that on October 12th and 13th the annual bicycle race will be held at the park. The final closing of the pool was discussed, which included draining of the pool pipes by Capri Pools. There will be a minimal amount of water left in the deep end due to our high water table.

The next subject Mr. Brockschmidt discussed was the bid that was received for construction of the pool parking lot and widening of the park entrance. The bid was received from K E Vas Co. and was quoted at $116,250, but with some adjustments could be reduced to approximately $100,000. The pool parking lot would include 16 additional parking spaces as well as 2 handicapped spaces. He proposed attending a TIF meeting on Tuesday October 2nd to discuss whether or not they will increase the funds they will give the Park to help fund the parking lot project to $55,000. Mrs. Jones motioned to accept the bid after the adjustments as long as TIF is willing to increase to $55,000. Mr. Kight seconded the motion and it was approved.

Mr. Brockschmidt informed the board that the bonds were paid off and recommended that the bonds for the 19-20 fiscal year be issued in October rather than November. Mr. Kight made a motion to do so with the public meeting being held October 23rd and final approval at our regular board meeting which will be October 31st. It was seconded by Mrs. Jones and approved. He also reminded the board that Mr. Schaeffer and Mr. Hardwick are up for election in the spring of ’19 and gave Mr. Schaeffer his election packet.

The meeting adjourned at 12:44 pm on a motion by Mr. Schaefer and a second by Mrs. Jones
