Cass County Central Republican Committee Chairman Terry Blakeman is blasting what he feels is the reason behind Illinois Democrats' wide-ranging, Election Night success.

“Plain and simple, we are a welfare state,” he told West Central Reporter. “As long as one party (Democrats) keeps giving away free stuff, they will stay in power.”

Blakeman argues the current situation leaves the state in a perilous position.

“Eventually the state coffers will run dry and the programs will stop;” he added. “At that point, all voters will turn on the Democratic Party. Until then, enjoy high taxes and corrupt government."

Finally, Blakeman insists Republicans are in need of new leadership across the state to balance the scales.

“The current leadership does not know how to campaign against the Democrats,” he said.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Democrats recorded a statewide sweep on Election Night along with picking up at least two congressional seats.

In addition, first-term Gov. Bruce Rauner, a Republican, was ousted by J.B. Pritzker, a Democrat, as overall the GOP suffered the party’s most lopsided defeat in more than a decade.
