City of Carrollton issued the following announcement on Dec. 5.
Don’t let package thieves ruin your holiday season. Here are a few tips from the @CarrolltonTXPD on how to prevent package thieves from making your Christmas less than jolly. http://bit.ly/2SwkiRn (Facebook link)
Tips to prevent package theft:
-If you will not be home to receive your delivery, have it delivered to a trusted neighbor who WILL be home. Don’t know your neighbors? Use this as a perfect opportunity to meet them.
-Set up a front porch surveillance camera with your home security system. If your camera doesn’t actually deter a thief, you will at the very least be able to provide us with good evidence.
-Is FedEx your carrier? Try their “Ship&Get” secure delivery sites. There are two Carrollton locations; inside the 7-Eleven at 3700 Old Denton Rd., and another outside the Walgreens at 1919 E. Frankford Rd.
-If UPS is your carrier, use their "My Choice" program. It sends an e-mail or text message to you just prior to package arrival.
-Shopping Amazon? Try their “Amazon Locker” secure delivery sites. While there is not one immediately in Carrollton yet, there are several nearby.
-If your employer allows, have your items delivered to your workplace.
-Require a signature with delivery.
-Request the driver leave the package in an inconspicuous, concealed area.
-Invest in a front porch lock-box.
