MCDONOUGH DISTRICT HOSPITAL: MDH Festival of Trees Sees Record Fundraising Year

Christmastree

McDonough District Hospital issued the following announcement on Dec. 12.

The 13th Annual McDonough District Hospital “Festival of Trees”, sponsored by Citizens Bank, a Division of Morton Community Bank Member FDIC, took place Friday, November 30 to Monday, December 3 at the West Central Illinois (WCI) Arts Center.

The festival officially began Thursday, November 29 with the Jingle ‘n Mingle event, a black-tie optional reception where guests could preview the trees. Nearly 200 guests were in attendance and enjoyed entertainment by WIU’s Drs. István Szabó and Minjung Seo, refreshments and hors d'oeuvres, as well as a live auction for themed gift baskets.

Friday-Monday more than 1,300 guests came through the doors of the WCI Arts Center to view the 38 trees, each boasting their own unique theme decorated by community businesses and individuals. Guests were able to participate in the “I Spy” game, seeking specified items within each tree, as well as enter for a chance to win a $200 cash raffle, sponsored by Steve Silberer Century 21. Lastly, attendees had the chance to cast a vote for their favorite “People’s Choice” tree, sponsored by Marcia Twaddle.

Patrons also enjoyed a full line up of entertainment throughout the festival, including: Ukulele Macomb, Miss Margaret Face Painting, and the Wesley Praise Band.

Through admission funds, auction and raffle proceeds, and event sponsorships the festival raised more than $36,000. Proceeds will benefit the Dolores Kator Switzer Women’s Center at MDH, with an additional $250 for the Reach Out and Read Program at the MDH Pediatric Clinic.

“We are thrilled to see record fundraising at this year’s festival. The MDH Foundation and Festival of Trees committee work very hard to bring this event to the community and we are ecstatic to see so many people enjoy it,” said MDH Foundation Coordinator Brittany Moore.
