The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s (AKA) Chi Sigma Omega chapter is set to host a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. International Day of Service event on Monday, Jan. 21 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Slated to be held at the Bolingbrook Community Center, the event will include a panel discussion among community leaders, including DuPage Township Trustee Alyssia Benford, on "what each generation can bring to the table going forward to help achieve King's dream of equality and justice for all," according to a press release. Benford is a member of the sorority.
Benford ran unsuccessfully as a Republican for the Illinois House of Representatives in the 98th District in November.
Attendees are asked to bring donations of nonperishable canned foods and diapers to stock the shelves of local food pantries.
