Memorial Hospital - Carthage IL issued the following announcement on Jan. 11.
It’s Birth Defects Prevention Month! Women of childbearing age and their care providers should know that folic acid promotes good health before, during, and after pregnancy. Daily consumption of the B vitamin folic acid before pregnancy is crucial, as birth defects of the brain and spine (such as spina bifida) can occur in the early weeks following conception, often before a woman knows she is pregnant. For more information, ask your local family provider. Go to http://mhtlc.org/ to get a list of family care providers.
