McDonough District Hospital issued the following announcement on Jan. 21.

The McDonough District Hospital Pediatric Clinic’s Reach Out and Read program will receive more than 400 new books as a result of a $1,000 donation by the Kiwanis Club of Macomb.

Brought to the clinic in December 2017, the Reach Out and Read program promotes early literacy and school readiness by providing developmentally-appropriate books to pediatric patients starting at the six-month checkup through age five.

The MDH Pediatric Clinic is one of 135 sites throughout Illinois to participate in the program. Nationally, more than four million children have already benefited from the program across 5,000 sites.

The Macomb Kiwanis Club has created opportunities for children to lead safer and healthier lives locally since 1922, by carrying out the Kiwanis mission of empowering communities to improve the world by making lasting differences in the lives of children. As an international organization, Kiwanis members participate in approximately 150,000 service projects and raise nearly $100 million every year for communities in more than 80 nations and geographic areas.
