City of Pittsfield City Council met Jan. 15.

The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Pittsfield, Pike County, Illinois, was held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the City Council room at 215 North Monroe Street. The following officers were present: Mayor John Hayden, City Clerk Cindy Prentice, and Aldermen Kevin Ketchum, Ed Knight, Paul Lennon, Robert Ritchart, Kevin Wombles and Robert Wood.
Absent: Aldermen Bill Scheiwe and Robert Wilson.
Mayor Hayden presided.
Alderman Ketchum moved to approve the minutes of the last regular Council meeting as amended.
Alderman Wood seconded the motion.

Alderman Ritchart moved to accept the recommendation of the Zoning Committee to approve the variance for Verna Hayden and Lila Pepper, owners of the property located at 243 South Madison Street in Pittsfield, for placement of a handicap accessible ramp and deck which will be two feet (2’) from a side yard instead of the required ten feet (10’) on a corner lot.

Mayor Hayden reported bid openings will begin at 10:00 a.m. on February 21, 2019, on Clarksville Road overlay, Clarksville Road/Fayette Street intersection, and the alley behind William Watson hotel/County Government building. The alley will be a concrete alley.
Alderman Wombles commended the City on a good job of clearing the streets. Max Middendorf reported the Picture Pittsfield group will be meeting with the layout consultant for the disc golf course at the lake and installation of the course will begin soon. Chief of Police Kenny Yelliott reported his department had 3200 incidents, 300 arrests, 66 felonies, 10 sexual assaults, 20 search warrants for drugs in 2018. Alderman Ritchart and Mayor Hayden stated the statistics should be placed in the newspapers, so citizens are aware of all the department does.
Alderman Lennon moved to go into closed session at 6:30 p.m. to discuss personnel, purchase of property and potential litigation.

Mayor Hayden has received a resignation from Chief of Police Kenny Yelliott effective February 28, 2019. Official acceptance of his resignation will be on the next regular Council agenda.
