The price of local government in 2017: City of Virginia

The City of Virginia budget was $2.65 million for its 2017 fiscal year, or $4,239 per household.

That's a decrease of 2.9 percent from 2016, when the city spent $2.72 million, or $4,364 per household.

Since 2001, the City of Virginia budget has grown by 64.3 percent, from $1.61 million. The city population has fallen 6.8 percent over the same period, from 1,728.

Salaries accounted for 14.3 percent of city spending in 2017. Virginia property taxpayers paid $379,155 for eight full-time employees and 56 part-time employees.
