City of Dallas City Council met July 10.

The Dallas City City Council held its regular meeting on July 10, 2019, at 5 p.m. Mayor Kevin Six called the meeting to order with the following commissioners present: Lila Gittings and Greg Olson. Esther Newberry and Harold Northup Jr. were absent.
Others attending the meeting were Anne Thompson and Kenny Foster.
A motion was made by Gittings, and 2nd by Olson to accept the minutes of the June 26, 2019, meeting. Gittings, Olson, and Six AYE. Newberry and Northup ABSENT.

Anne Thompson asked about properties around town that need to be mowed and if the city was planning on getting these taken care of before the city celebration. The city will try to have these taken care of before the celebration.
It was reported that the training for the new digital read water reader is set for July 19.
Doug Erickson has informed Mayor Six that he has checked on grants for the boat docks. It now appears that there is only going to be approximately $750,000 available, and it is very unlikely that the city would be able to get enough money to do nearly all of the work that is needed to be done.
Discussed the bridge on East Fouth Street by the cemetery. This appears to be a county bridge and the council would like for the city attorney to send the county a letter regarding the need for this bridge to be replaced.
Discussed getting the electricity hooked up to the water salesman building and the garage at the city hall/police station so that they can be used for the city celebration. Mayor Six is going to talk to Max Faul about this.
Mayor Six reported that he has met with a representative for a timber buyer regarding the timber around the city's water tank. The representative feels that there are enough trees that are worth harvesting to have his boss come and take a look at them.
The city attorney has notified the mayor that she knows of a person that needs to do some community service work. It was decided to have this person power wash the outside of the city hall/police station building and clean the gutters.
Discussed amending the cost of the city's liquor licenses. This will be discussed more at the next meeting.
Police Chief Gary Smith would like permission to advertise for part-time police officers. A motion was made by Olson, and 2nd by Gittings to give Police Chief Smith permission to advertise for part-time police officers. Gittings, Olson, and Six AYE. Newberry and Northup ABSENT.
Discussed sending Mayor Six to the Illinois Municipal League's Annual Conference in September. This will be discussed more at the next meeting.
