Culbertson Memorial Hospital issued the following announcement on Aug. 29.
After a lengthy evaluation and several discussions between the Hospital Board of Directors and Administration, the Sarah D. Culbertson Memorial Hospital Board of Directors voted Thursday night to sell Culbertson Gardens through a sealed-bid process.
“This was an extremely difficult decision for the board to make, one they have thought about for a long time” said Culbertson Memorial Hospital Chief Executive Officer John Kessler. “Unfortunately the financial hit the hospital takes from Medicare every year on our cost report for operating the Gardens is having a major impact on the hospital’s finances. Ultimately, we decided to focus on our primary mission which is to operate a hospital, and that we must do whatever is necessary to keep that hospital financially viable for the long term.”
Board Chairman Greg Snyder stated, “It is the boards hope to find a buyer who has a similar vision for Culbertson Gardens and will continue to operate as a retirement living facility.”
“It is our promise to do everything we can to make this transition as smooth as possible for our residents, their families and affected staff” concluded Kessler.
Culbertson has operated Culbertson Gardens since 1998.
