McDonough District Hospital issued the following announcement on Sept. 18.
McDonough District Hospital Cardiopulmonary staff will host a L.I.F.E. (Learning is ForEver) Course focusing on Stroke Prevention. The course is set for Wednesday, October 2 from 2-3:30 p.m. in Auditoriums A & B, located on the lower level of MDH.
The course presents guidelines for preventing a stroke as well as recognizing the signs and symptoms. Additionally, participants will learn about screening tests available and see a demonstration of the imaging used to detect the risk of stroke from carotid artery disease.
Attendees of this class will have the opportunity to learn at least one way to reduce the risk of having a stroke from Jill Foster, Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, Registered Vascular Specialist, and Certified Respiratory Therapist; and Peggy Jones, Certified Nurse Practitioner.

L.I.F.E. is an organization dedicated to providing high-quality, low-cost, and enjoyable adult-education experiences. The Macomb L.I.F.E. program, organized by the Western Illinois University Study Abroad Department, is affiliated with the national organization Road Scholar: Elderhostel Institute Network (EIN). It is independently administered by area residents who develop the courses, select the teachers, establish the fees, and promote the curriculum.
