City of Macomb issued the following announcement on Sept. 29.
The City of Macomb Public Works Department will begin flushing fire hydrants throughout the City on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. We will continue to flush our entire water distribution system throughout the fall.
Fire hydrants will be flushed on weekdays between the hours of 7:00 am and 3:30 pm.
Please be advised that flushing may cause some discoloration of water. This does not represent a health hazard. However, customers are cautioned to determine if the water is clear before washing clothes (or any other processing) as staining may occur. If you experience discolored water, avoid using hot water until discoloration clears and run your cold water for approximately 5-10 minutes to clear your service line.
If you do have any laundry damaged by discolored water, avoid drying the clothes. Rust remover can also be picked up at the Public Works building located at 233 Center Street between the hours of 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
Please also be advised that if the system pressure in the area of your residence drops below 20psi during flushing you will be issued a “boil order”. This is a precautionary measure in order to assure your safety, and the “boil order’ will be lifted once water samples have satisfactorily passed analytical testing at an independent laboratory.
Please report extended discoloration, and any concerns to the Water Treatment Plant at 309-836-3916.
The Public Works Department regrets any temporary inconvenience you may experience; however, the flushing program is necessary to maintain a good water supply for both firefighting and domestic consumption.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation.
