McDonough County Law and Legal Committee met Aug. 5.

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting on Monday, July 1, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse in the Law Library. Committee Members present included, Chair Rod McGrew, Vice Chair Travis Hiel, Lee Calvert, Joe Erlandson, Michael Kirby, Bob Mahr, Julie Melvin, and Paul Trimmer. Other persons in attendance were County Board Chairman George Dixon, County Clerk Gretchen DeJaynes, Sheriff Nick Petitgout, Chief Deputy Adam Cremer, Patrick Stout, Dave Schaab, Tim Lobdell, and Ric Smart.
Chair McGrew called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Review & Approve July 1, 2019 Minutes
Member Mahr moved with a second by Member Trimmer to approve the July 1, 2019 minutes, with a correction to add County Board Chairman to others present. Motion carried on a voice vote.
Waste Management Update
David Schaab gave the report. In July they received a total of 4008.41 tons of various waste. Schaab also reported that Waste Management has been overpaying the County.
Tri-County Recycling
Tim Lobdell gave report. Things are going well and They are also getting ready to start fall clean up.
Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report
Veteran’s Superintendent Ric Smart gave the report. Nine veterans were given assistance in July. Total assistance amounted to $1,960.03. The transportation van made 13 trips to Iowa City. Transported 26 veterans a total of 3,420 miles. Drivers contributed 109.75 hours of their time.
Sheriff’s Report
Chief Deputy Adam Cremer gave report. Sheriff Petitgout is looking into getting pillars on the Courthouse. Sheriff Petitgout attended conference last week. Chairman Dixon also added the inmates waxed floors at St. Paul School, they were very thankful.
Assessor’s Office Update
No report.
Claims Review and Approval
Member Hiel moved with a second by Member Melvin to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.
Other
Member Erlandson asked about a change to the chase policy at the Sheriff’s Department. Chairman McGrew discussed with Sheriff and believes the policy should be discussed at an open meeting.
Chairman Dixon said August 22nd WIU will have a meet and greet at Macomb Country Club. Also that they will have the bond hearing at the August County Board Meeting.
