Carthage Elementary School District 317 Board met Oct. 16.

The regular meeting of the Carthage E.S.D. #317 Board of Education was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Board Vice-President Robert Menn.
Roll call: Luke Burling/present; Robert Menn/present; Andrea Jones/absent; Brandon Gooding/present; Trish Markley/present; Amy Graham/present; Brent Ufkes/absent;
There were no additional agenda items.
There were no individuals present wishing to speak on stated agenda items.
Students that exceeded standards on the IAR test last year were recognized by the board and presented with certificates.
Christine Murphy proposed parent-sponsored golf for the middle school next year. This would be an IESA sport and she is willing to organize and coach the team. There would be no obligation on the part of the school district.
Administrative Reports: Mrs. Hardy reviewed her report and informed the board she would have the results of the Illinois School Report at the next meeting, as the current results have been embargoed.
Mr. Butcher reviewed his report and reported that two middle school students are advancing to state cross country competition.
Mr. Snowden was absent as he was supervising a ball game.
It was moved by Mr. Gooding and seconded by Mrs. Markley to approve the consent agenda as presented. Roll call: Luke Burling/yes; Robert Menn/yes; Andrea Jones/absent; Brandon Gooding/yes; Trish Markley/yes; Amy Graham/yes; Brent Ufkes/absent. Motion carried 5-0.
The School Board Convention and plans were discussed.
The Preliminary Tax Levy was discussed.
It was moved by Mrs. Markley and seconded by Mr. Gooding to enter into executive session at 7:30 p.m. for the purpose of discussing personnel and bargaining. Roll call: Luke Burling/yes; Robert Menn/yes; Andrea Jones/absent; Brandon Gooding/yes; Trish Markley/yes; Amy Graham/yes; Brent Ufkes/absent. Motion carried 5-0.
It was move by Mr. Gooding and seconded by Mr. Burling to exit executive session at 7:50 p.m. Roll call: Luke Burling/yes; Robert Menn/yes; Andrea Jones/absent; Brandon Gooding/yes; Trish Markley/yes; Amy Graham/yes; Brent Ufkes/absent. Motion carried 5-0.
It was moved by Mrs. Markley and seconded by Mr. Gooding to approve Roger Duffy as bus aide according to the pay scale stated in the contract between Carthage Elementary School District #317 and the Service Employee’s International Union Local Number 73. Roll call: Luke Burling/yes; Robert Menn/yes; Andrea Jones/absent; Brandon Gooding/yes; Trish Markley/yes; Amy Graham/yes; Brent Ufkes/absent. Motion carried 5-0.
It was moved by Mrs. Markley and seconded by Mr. Gooding to approve the employment of Jerry Butcher as Superintendent for the 2020-2021 school year pending completion of full certification and with contract and salary to be negotiated at a later date when certification is finalized. Roll call: Luke Burling/yes; Robert Menn/yes; Andrea Jones/absent; Brandon Gooding/yes; Trish Markley/yes; Amy Graham/yes; Brent Ufkes/absent. Motion carried 5-0.
