A.Curricular Requests from the School of Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Decision Sciences

1.Request for Change in Title and Course Description

a.ACCT 307, Accounting for Managers and Management Decisions, 3 s.h.

Current:Accounting for Managers and Management Decisions

Covers asset, liability, and equity accounting, as well as basic cost accounting concepts and techniques. Emphasis is on the use of accounting information for planning, controlling, and operating decisions. Not open to those who have received credit for ACCT 201 or 202. Cannot be applied towards meeting the requirements for Accountancy major or minor without prior approval of the department chair.

Proposed:Accounting for Managers and Engineers

Covers basic financial and cost accounting concepts and techniques. Emphasis is on the use of accounting information by managers and engineers for planning, controlling, and operating decisions. Not open to those who have received credit for ACCT 201 or 202. Cannot be applied towards meeting the requirements for Accountancy major or minor without prior approval of the department chair. Not open to students with credit for the same course listed in the other department.

Current:A comparative introduction to the major areas of the liberal arts and sciences. Students will learn how each area evolved and how each approaches problems and controversies. The course may take its particular focus each year from the University theme.

Proposed:A comparative introduction to the major areas of the liberal arts and sciences. Students will learn how each area evolved; how each approaches problems and controversies; how diverse groups have worked within and contributed to each of them; and how the study of race, gender, religion, and multiculturalism informs and is embedded within these different fields. The theme may vary from year to year.
