CITY OF GREENVILLE: Letter from County Board and City of Greenville

Interviewmedia

City of Greenville issued the following announcement on May 8.

"Flatten The Curve!"

We know everyone has heard this phrase, and is hopefully doing your part to help our community.

The goal of the efforts over these past weeks is important and direct: To Save Lives!!!

The Bond County Board and the Greenville City Council take this opportunity to thank all of our Bond County

Citizens for social distancing and wearing masks. We are definitely "Flattening The Curve."

There have been only six cases of Covid - 19 in our county. As long as our residents continue to follow

the guidelines and do their part, spreading the Coronavirus can be reduced.

Illinois Governor Pritzker has issued the new Stay At Home Order to remain in effect until the end of May. We

ask all our citizens of Bond County to please follow the standards of wearing masks, and keeping a distance of

six feet from others.

The Governor's Order includes a requirement to wear a mask or face covering in public places, or when

working. The Order states: "Any individual who is over age two and able to medically tolerate a face -

covering (a mask or cloth face covering) is required to cover their nose and mouth with a face - covering when

in a public place and unable to maintain a six - foot social distance. Face - coverings are required in public

indoor spaces such as stores. "

Masks can be homemade, and as simple as a bandana or t - shirt tied around the face.

We know wearing a mask may not be ideal for everyone. We understand.

However, the mask is a protection for your friends and neighbors, preventing you from potentially sharing the

virus with others. You can feel well and have no symptoms, yet spread the Coronavirus. What may seem to

be an inconvenience of wearing a mask, will save lives.

The Governor's Order also requires staying six feet apart from individuals in essential businesses and stores.

It would be outside of our authority, and potentially harmful, to advise ignoring the Governor's Executive

Order.

It remains our goal to uphold the Constitution of the United States, and Constitution of the State of Illinois, as

well as protecting your Constitutional rights within the legal framework of the Governor's Executive Orders.

We understand the hardships related to the impact of Covid - 19. Using appropriate lines of communication

such as the Southern Illinois Mayor's Association, we are sharing ideas with the Governor's Office regarding

life returning to normal and businesses reopening.

Bond County government and the City of Greenville are grateful to everyone for supporting local businesses

and restaurants, as well as helping each other during these challenging times. Continue being courteous and

respectful to front - line and essential workers.

To the Bond County Health Department, we offer our appreciation for leading the response to this health

crisis.

Each citizen is important to us. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Bond County Health

Department, the Bond County Sheriff's Department, the Greenville Municipal Building, the Bond County

Board, or the Greenville City Council.

As the Stay At Home Order remains in place, an extra measure of cooperation, patience, and caring for others

will be needed.

Again, "Thank You Very Much" from the Bond County Board and Greenville City Council.

For over 200 years, our residents have demonstrated compassion and unselfishness. We have confidence that

these characteristics will be evident in the days ahead.

Be a good neighbor, and please wear a mask in public.

Stay safe, take care, and keep up the great work!!!

Bond County and the City of Greenville have long been known and regarded as strong, faith - based

communities. We conclude with a call to prayer.

Please thank God daily for the many blessings amidst the challenges associated with the Coronavirus, in

addition to praying for the good health of our county residents and businesses.

May the Lord bless and protect all communities in Bond County
