Chicago (34,341 cases) and Cook County (24,116 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 1,552, while Cook County recorded 1,123 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 512,037, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 16,050 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 41,917 were male and 44,034 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 2,196, while female deaths stood at 1,723.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 1,674 Hispanics, 176 Asians, 1,674 whites, 1,261 African-Americans, and 138 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
