Illini West High School District #307 Board of Education met April 15.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

1) The Regular Meeting of the Illini West High School District 307 of Hancock, McDonough, and Henderson Counties, IL was called to order at 7:00 PM. The meeting was held as a ZOOM meeting because of Covid-19.

2) Roll Call:

4) Motion by Sutton, seconded by Anders to approve Minutes of the Closed Session Meetings of February 19, 2020 and March 18, 2020 and the Regular Meeting of March 18, 2020. 

Roll Call: Anders/yes, B Pence/yes, Wilde-Tillman/yes, Sutton/yes, Wujek/yes, Huston/yes, S Pence/yes. Motion carried.

5) Motion by Anders, seconded by Sutton to approve the bills as presented. 

Roll Call: S Pence/yes, B Pence/absent, Huston/yes, Anders/yes, Wujek/yes, Sutton/yes, Wilde-Tillman/yes. Motion carried.

6) Motion by Sutton, seconded by S Pence to approve the Consent Agenda Items as presented.

9) Reports

a. Superintendent Report

i. Klingner Associates - $220,000 expected now projected at $335,000. CESD would like the structural work on the beams to be completed by CESD and IW maintenance and custodial staff. IW needs the heating and air condition fixed. $50,000 from the state maintenance grant and split the remaining cost with IW. Originally IW cost was $50,000 plus $50,000 from the State Maintenance Grant and now the cost could be $117,000 or more. B Pence joined meeting.

10) Discussion/Action

a. Motion by Anders and seconded by Sutton to set the Amended Budget Hearing on June 17, 2020 @ 7:00 p.m. 

Roll Call: S Pence/yes, Wujek/yes, Huston/yes, Anders/yes, B Pence/yes, Wilde-Tillman/yes. Motion carried.

b. Motion by B Pence and seconded by Wilde-Tillman to approve the Remote Learning Plan. 

Roll Call: Sutton/yes, B Pence/yes, Wilde-Tillman/yes, Wujek/yes, Anders/yes, S Pence/yes, Huston/yes. Motion carried.

CESD 7:49 p.m. texted Kim that the elementary district is open to l of the total cost of the HVAC project.

Chris Greenhalge has done a great job of getting Hot Spots set-up. Administrators are doing leg work to keep communication open.

c. Motion by Anders and seconded by S Pence to approve the 2020/2021 Student Handbook. 

Roll Call: Sutton/yes, B Pence/yes, Wilde-Tillman/yes, Wujek/yes, Anders/yes, S Pence/yes, Huston/yes. Motion carried.

d. Graduation - Graduation scheduled for May 17th has been postponed. The administration is working on having a virtual graduation on that day. ISBE will probably leave graduation requirements up to local districts. Seniors happy with their third quarter grade can be done May 1st. If not ok with their grade would continue until the end of the regular school year. Board agree to lower IW graduation standards to the minimum state standards under the current crisis.

11) Motion by Wilde-Tillman, seconded by B Pence to leave regular session for the purpose of entering Executive Session at 7:49 PM to discuss:

a. The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees for the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1)

Motions by Sutton, seconded by B Pence to leave executive session at 7:57 PM to return to regular session.

i. Motion by Sutton, seconded by Wilde-Tillman to approve the Reduction in Force of Robbie Middle and Brandi Simmons. Roll Call: S Pence/yes, B Pence/yes, Huston/yes, Anders/yes, Wujek/yes, Sutton/yes, Wilde-Tillman/yes

ii. Employ

1. Motions by Wilde-Tillman, seconded by Sutton to confirm the employment of winter coaches as presented for the 2020/2021 school year. Roll call: Huston/yes, Wujek/yes, S Pence/yes, Wilde-Tillman/yes, B Pence/ yes, Sutton/yes, Anders/yes. Motion carried

13) Motion by Sutton, seconded by Anders to adjourn the March 18, 2020 Regular Board meeting at 8:05 PM.
