Chicago (61,942 cases) and Cook County (45,305 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,789, while Cook County recorded 2,108 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 2,806,797, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 33,730 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 85,969 were male and 94,000 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,059, while female deaths stood at 3,462.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,365 Asians, 3,365 whites, 2,061 African-Americans, 1,566 Hispanics, and 177 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
