City of Jacksonville Commission on Disabilities and Human Relations met July 2.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

Present: Alan Bradish (Chairman), Mary Watts (Vice Chair), Eddie Lowe (Secretary), Guy Crumley, Jaime Filo-Cruz,, Ruth Linear, Colton Pettyjohn, Larry Whewell

Absent: Nancy Harper, Ralph Hastie

Guests: Marco Cartolana, Jacksonville Journal Courier

WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER 4:05 P.M.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

PUBLIC COMMENT

• None

OLD BUSINESS

• Black Lives Matter

Allan met with organizers of the local Black Lives Matter Rally explaining the duties and functions of the JCDHR. Alan invited them to present their concerns to the commission.

NEW BUSINESS

• Police Chief Presentation

Chief Mefford was unable to attend today’s meeting and provided prepared statements that Alan read to the Commission. See attached. Chief Mefford has an open-door policy and welcomes any concerns from residents.

• Martin Luther King Monument

Ruth has concerns that the Community Park sign at the entrance of the park is hiding the Martin Luther King Monument. The JCDHR Governmental Sub Committee consisting of Colton, Mary and Ruth will meet with the Mayor to discuss this concern.

MISCELLANEOUS

• Next meeting date: August 6th
