City of Beardstown issued the following announcement on Sept. 26.
The Illinois Department of Public Health confirmed no new cases of Covid-19 in Cass County today. Cass County’s overall Covid-19 case count remains at 398. The total number recovered is 353, with eleven deceased. There are currently no cases hospitalized.
Cass County has once again been identified as a warning county based on IDPH metrics. This means that the statistics suggest higher risk of community spread at gatherings and events where social distancing and masking guidelines are not being adhered to. This is the eighth week out of the last nine that Cass County has been identified under warning status. Our consistent presence on the list suggests that these metrics are accurate, and that the population of Cass County is at a higher risk of community spread than most other Illinois communities. Covid-19 is present in our community. Without action from our residents, it will continue to get worse.
The good news is that we know that individual behaviors can help to slow and prevent the spread in our community. Staying home when sick, wearing a mask, social distancing, limiting time spent in public places, and washing hands frequently have worked for other populations to gain better control of Covid. These basic actions can work in our community too, but we all have to work together and commit to improving the health of Cass County.
