COVID-19 restrictions have created an added challenge in fulfilling field work requirements for Western Illinois University's faculty and students in the Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Administration, but Julie Eggleston has found ways to help her students work around restrictions.
There have even been some side benefits as students have delved into designing virtual programming, such as for participants in the McDonough County Special Recreation Association, which provides recreational experiences for those with disabilities, according to the university. That includes participation in Special Olympics,
"This is teaching the students methods, but it is also teaching them flexibility because they are planning and executing the programs," Eggleston said. "They submit a program plan and a supply list to me and I tweak it and approve it. It's a very nice flow of collaboration."
