Macomb Community Unit School District 185 Board met March 22.

Here is the agenda provided by the board:

1. Call to Order – Ms. Jill Myers, Board President

2. Pledge of Allegiance – Ms. Myers

3. Roll Call – Ms. Lisa Mooney, Board Recording Secretary

5. Recognition of Students, Staff Members, and Community Members – Ms. Myers 

5.1 The Board of Education recognizes Ben La Prad, son of Tammy and Jim La Prad, for being selected Senior of the Month for the month of March. Ben is a four-sport varsity athlete, participating in Cross Country, Soccer, Track & Field, and Swimming. He is also a member of the Macomb Youth Leadership Organization (MYLO), Spanish Club, National Honor Society, Band, and Choir (Secretary). He has earned many honors, including West Central All Conference Academic Athlete, High Honor Roll, National Honor Society, and he has qualified for State in Track & Field and placed 7th in Cross Country Sectionals. Ben’s community activities include volunteering for Genesis Garden and Loaves & Fishes. He is a member of the UU of Macomb and is a universal blood donor. Ben enjoys outdoor recreation (biking, hiking, canoeing, and kayaking), playing tennis, reading and spending time with friends and family. After graduation, he plans to attend the US Naval Academy or college with an NROTC scholarship. He has received congressional letters of appointment from Senator Durbin and Representative La Hood. Ben plans to study within STEM field and run track and cross-country where he attends. Other schools of interest are Macalester, St. Olaf, and Grinnell.

This program is sponsored by the Mid-America National Bank, who established the program to recognize the accomplishments of outstanding senior students.

7.3 MEF Grants – the Macomb Educational Foundation awarded grants in January and February in the amount of $1329.83. Julie Stufflebeam and Rebecca Melvin, Macomb Junior High School - Math, received $165.00 and Kristi Reusch, Lincoln Elementary School Reading Specialist, received $1164.83. Many thanks to the MEF for their support of the District, its teachers, and the students.

7.4 FOIA Requests:

a. Chicago Tribune and ProPublica for data on school discipline.

b. SmartProcure – quarterly request for purchase and vendor data.

b. Approve a resolution temporarily transferring the powers of the Board to the Superintendent – Ms. Myers
