City of Dallas City City Council met March 10.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The Dallas City City Council held its regular meeting at 5 p.m. Mayor Kevin Six called the meeting to order with the following commissioners present: Carole McDowell and Greg Olson. Harold Northup Jr. was absent.

Others attending the meeting were Anne Thompson, Stephanie Herriman, Chris Classen, and Gary Smith.

Mayor Six asked for a moment of silence in memory of Commissioner Lila Gittings, who passed away March 7, 2021. On behalf of the City of Dallas City, Mayor Six and the Council would like to extend their appreciation to Commissioner Gittings for her many years of service to the City of Dallas City. She served as a City Commissioner from May 1991 to May 1992, as well as May 2015 to the time of her death. She also served as Mayor from May 1992 to May 2007.

A motion was made by McDowell, and 2nd by Olson to accept the minutes of the February 24, 2021, meeting. McDowell, Olson, and Six AYE. Northup ABSENT.

Stephanie Herriman asked about getting some gravel for the alley behind their house at 173 East Fifth Street. The city will have the city's street employee check on getting this done.

Chris Classen reported that both of the sewer pumps have been rebuilt. Two water leaks have been located. The water to these two properties has been shut off until the necessary repairs are made to stop the leaks. He plans to start working on getting the Wetlands area cleaned up and mowed soon.

Police Chief Gary Smith gave his report for the month of February 2021. He has completed the National Incident Based Reports System training. As soon as the county has the capability, he will be entering the appropriate data and submitting it to the FBI. This will help qualify the city police department for future grant requirements. Chief Smith and Officer Foster are purchasing optics for their patrol rifles. They will reimburse the city for any amount over the $200 annual clothing/equipment allowance. Chief Smith will be completing TASER recertification for the Department's officers in April. He is checking on the cost of a DVR unit and wireless microphone for the in-car camera unit for the 2017 Explorer. Due to several meetings being conducted via webservice, he is purchasing a web camera for his desktop computer.

Discussed the garage for the police vehicles. Discussed possibly raising the building and putting in more rock or pouring a concrete slab.

There have been some problems with one of the Street Department's older trucks. It was decided to have Melton's Auto look at the truck and see what they feel needs to be done.

Mayor Six has contacted Mike Dill about possibly building a new table for the city hall for the council. Discussed parking and snow removal on Oak Street.

Mayor Six has not been able to contact Ameren Illinois regarding the electrical service outside the city hall building. He will contact them before the next meeting.

Discussed Spring Clean-Up Days. This will be discussed more at the next meeting.

The city has received a request from the Illini West Post Prom Committee for a donation for the 2021 Illini West Post Prom Celebration. A motion was made by Olson, and 2nd by McDowell to donate $325 to the Illini West Post Prom Committee. McDowell, Olson, and Six AYE. Northup ABSENT.

The city has also received a request from Deana Ferrill for a donation for the upcoming annual Easter Egg Hunt that will be held at the Dallas City Grade School on April 3. A motion was made by McDowell, and 2nd by Olson to donate $275 to Deana Ferrill for the 2021 Easter Egg Hunt. McDowell, Olson, and Six AYE. Northup ABSENT.

Discussed a request from ABATE to have the city make a proclamation for May Being Motorcycle Awareness Month. The council approved having Mayor Six sign this proclamation.

A motion was made by McDowell, and 2nd by Olson to adjourn the meeting. McDowell, Olson, and Six AYE. Northup ABSENT.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:58 p.m.
