A partnership between Rushville, Schuyler County and a non-profit organization celebrated a major milestone when they broke ground on a tiny home.
The tiny home in Rushville, with more to come, is done in conjunction with 2x4's for Hope, which aims to provide help to those in need with life's essentials such as housing. The homes will be for the homeless and at-risk veterans.
"Thank you to Mark and Chris Lawrence and the volunteers with the 2x4's for Hope project for having me in Rushville today to break ground on a veteran home build," said Rep. Darin LaHood (R-Illinois), who attended the May 7 ceremony in Rushville, in a tweet. "We live in the greatest country in the world because of the service and sacrifice made by veterans."
Founders of 2x4's for Hope, Mark and Chris Lawrence, said this is just the beginning to helping veterans, as reported by WGEM.
The tiny homes are 576 square feet and cost approximately $45,000 to build but are given to the veterans for free. The 2x4's for Hope program is a global nonprofit organization, WGEM reported.
The organization has donated more than 14,000 2x4s to help veterans projects nationwide. To learn more about the organization or to donate, visit the organization's website.
