Meet

City of Dallas City City Council Met May 26.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The Dallas City City Council held its regular meeting, at 5 p.m. In the absence of Mayor Kevin Six, Finance Commissioner Peggy Newberry called the meeting to order with the following commissioners present: Carole McDowell, Peggy Newberry, Harold Northup Jr., and Greg Olson. 

Others attending the meeting were Anne Thompson, Andy Dennis, Ryan Thompson, Kenny Jackson and Tammy Adams-Hudson from Jackson Disposal, and Doug Erickson. 

A motion was made by Olson, and 2nd by McDowell to accept the minutes of the May 12, 2021, meeting. McDowell, Newberry, Northup, and Olson AYE. 

Andy Dennis asked about where the city's surveyor stood on getting the survey of the city's property, that is adjacent to his, done. The city clerk reported that he had spoken to the city attorney. She had spoken to the surveyor and was told that he would have it ready in time for the next meeting. 

Kenny Jackson and Tammy Adams-Hudson appeared on behalf of Jackson Disposal in regards to the possibility of Jackson Disposal providing trash, recycling, and clean-up pick-up services for all of Dallas City's residents. The residents would then be billed for these services on their water bill monthly. They informed the council that there are several different options and that they need additional information as to exactly what kind of services the city is wanting in order to get the city an estimate. Discussed the different options. They will work on getting the prices for the different options so the council can discuss them more at the next meeting. 

Ryan Thompson discussed the old Legion Hall building. He asked the city engineer about the water mains west of Sycamore Street. The engineer discussed the procedures that would need to be done to determine what would be the best way to solve this problem. Mr. Thompson also discussed some fire hydrants in town that need to be replaced. 

Doug Erickson discussed the city streets and alleys that it has been determined need to be addressed this year. Also, discussed the Rebuild Illinois Bond Grant funds that the city has received and what this money can be used for. 

A motion was made by Northup, and 2nd by Olson to give Finance Commissioner Peggy Newberry authority to sign city checks whenever Mayor Six is not available to sign them. McDowell, Newberry, Northup, and Olson AYE. 

Discussed the installation of an electric pole by the garage at city hall. Mayor Six has contacted Ameren Illinois regarding this, and it will be discussed more at the next meeting. 

Discussed cleaning up, planting some flowers, and doing some decorating outside the front of the city hall building. 

A motion was made by Northup, and 2nd by McDowell to adjourn the meeting. McDowell, Newberry, Northup, and Olson AYE. 

The meeting was adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
