Brown County Community Unit School District 1 Board Met July 6.

The special meeting of the Board of Education was held at 5:00 p.m. in the Brown County High School band room via Zoom video conference. The meeting was called to order by Heath Fullerton. The minutes were recorded by McKenzie Taute.

In person attendance: Lan Eberle, Curt Simonson, Pollee Craven, Sally Ruble, Tracy Conley, McKenzie Taute, Kris Gallaher, Sandy Barr, Kember Logsdon, Teri Huston, Deb Kemper, Ganelle Luthy, David Penn, Alex Ebbing, Lori Lindsey-Richardson, Dave Phelps, Roger Ehret.
In attendance via Zoom: Dan Long, Natasha Jones.
Public Comment:
Teri Huston spoke for the bus drivers in attendance. Huston discussed concerns with drivers picking up and dropping off at licensed daycares. Huston went on to say that busses are already crowded and due to limited drivers, no routes could be added. Huston also mentioned the potential for an extra 15 minutes on the bus morning and afternoon would impact students living in the country, some already riding the bus for an hour.
Fullerton read aloud a letter submitted by Cristy Dunn. Dunn asked the Board to allow parents and students to make the decision regarding masks for the upcoming school year.

Discussion Items:
Sports Uniform Purchases: Dr. Eberle lead the discussion concerning the district purchasing sports uniforms. Eberle presented the Board a 5-year uniform rotation schedule. Athletic Director, Dave Phelps, addressed the Board explaining the current fundraisers that take place in efforts to offset sports costs.
Committee Meetings: Dr. Eberle discussed the need for committee meetings. The finance committee will meet one hour prior to each Board meeting to review the expenditures. Eberle also mentioned the upcoming teacher negotiations involving the educator negotiations committee.

The IHSA HeadStrong Plan provides concussion insurance to student athletes for the cost of $1.35 per athlete. This expense will be paid by the district and would cost approximately $300. Motion by Fullerton, seconded by Blaesing, to approve the IHSA HeadStrong Concussion Insurance Plan.

The Board acted on the required catastrophic insurance policy. The policy covers the following: While students are participating in or attending any regularly scheduled and supervised activity of the Policyholder, including interscholastic football; or while participating in or attending an authorized and sponsored activity (including after school session or weekends) of the Policyholder on premises designated by Policyholder. This includes direct and uninterrupted travel to and from such activities in a vehicle designated by the Policyholder and to or from the student’s residence to attend Policyholder sessions.

Motion by Blaesing, seconded by Fullerton, to enter closed session at 5:20 p.m. for the following subjects: a) the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the School District; b) collective negotiating matters between the School District and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees.

The Board voted to approve the 3% salary increases for Pollee Craven and Sally Ruble. Motion by Blakeley, seconded by Blaesing, to Approve the 3% Salary Increases for Building Principals for FY 22.
