McDonough County Board Law & Legal Committee Met July 12.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Courtroom 201. Committee Members present included Committee Chair Joe Erlandson, Vice Chair Ken Durkin, Lee Calvert, Travis Hiel, Michael Kirby, and Terra Litchfield. Members absent were Eric Chapman and Julie Melvin. Other persons in attendance were County Chair Scott Schwerer, County Clerk Gretchen DeJaynes, Sheriff Nicholas Petitgout, Patrick Stout, Ric Smart and Assessor Tammy Camp.

Chair Erlandson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Member Durkin moved with a second by Member Calvert to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Waste Management Update

None

Tri-County Recycling

None

Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report

Ric Smart gave the report. Seven Veterans were given assistance in June. Total assistance amounted to $1,425.92.

Sheriff’s Report

Sheriff Petitgout went over the report. Sheriff Petitgout informed the Committee that they have a jail population of 27 inmates, and that they have had 2 full time jailers and, one part time jailer quit in the past month. Sheriff Petitgout also stated that he has a new deputy starting in September.

Sheriff Petitgout passed out an article from Vice News on the Harrison case. Sheriff Petitgout gave a report on how the news article was incorrect in several ways. He stated that the clips that are on the internet are partial and, incomplete.

Assessor’s Office Update

Assessor Tammy Camp was present to discuss her Retirement. Member Erlandson, Member Hiel and County Chair

Schwerer met and decided to advertise the Assessors position. Member Durkin inquired on where to advertise. A discussion was held on how to precede. Member Durkin inquired on where to advertise. This is to be determined.

Member Litchfield moved with a second by Member Hiel to approve the motion to Advertise. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Claims Review and Approval

Member Hiel moved with a second by Member Kirby to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

County Board Chair Comments

County Chair Schwerer stated that Marcia Twaddle resigned.

Adjourn

Member Litchfield moved with a second by Member Calvert to adjourn the meeting at 7:55 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
