State Sen. Jil Tracy (Quincy) is reminding local residents to be mindful of large farm equipment while driving.
"It's harvest season, and that means long hours in the fields. Drivers, please slow down and watch for farmers and their equipment!" Tracy wrote in a comment attached to an Illinois public safety video posted to Facebook on Sept. 20.
As harvest season approaches, farmers want drivers to be mindful of farm equipment out on the roads. The harvest season campaign urges drivers to be alert, patient and courteous.
"I think, number one, if you see farm equipment out, take it slow, always look at what's going on around you," an Illinois farmer said in the video. "And just remember the person in the bigger machine, even though it is a lot of great technology, we still have to look around us and having that person behind us or in front of us working with us is a great thing."
The farmer also urged local drivers to not text and drive.
"Keep your eyes open and be aware that this equipment is bigger and slower than you and just please just give us a few moments to realize you're behind us so we can make adjustments accordingly so that you can come and pass around us," another Illinois farmer added.
