Sen. Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) is co-sponsoring a bill that would make selling or giving a firearm to a convicted felon a class X felony that would be punishable with a 10- to 30-year prison sentence, according to the Illinois General Assembly's website.
"People are very frustrated, in our state and in the nation,” Tracy said during a town hall meeting in September, according to KHQA. “They just want to be assured that their government is doing everything they can to make their lives better. We want to let them know that we understand their frustration. We share their frustration and we want to help be a part of the solution."
Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) filed the bill on Oct. 13.
The bill rules out probation, periodic imprisonment or conditional discharge for anyone convicted of this crime, according to the Illinois General Assembly's site.
Sens. Donald P. DeWitte (R-St. Charles), Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro), Win Stoller (R-Germantown Hills), Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville) and Neil Anderson (R-Andalusia), are co-sponsors of this bill.
