City of Dallas City City Council met Nov. 24.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The Dallas City City Council held its regular meeting at 5 p.m. Mayor Kevin Six called the meeting to order with the following commissioners present: Carole McDowell, Peggy Newberry, Harold Northup Jr., and Greg Olson.

Others attending the meeting were Anne Thompson, Doris Harman, Tracy Markey, and Gary Smith.

A motion was made by McDowell, and 2nd by Newberry to accept the minutes of the November 10, 2021, meeting. McDowell, Newberry, Olson, and Six AYE. Northup ABSTAIN.

Tracy Markey reported that animals have damaged the siding on the west side of the pressure station building at West Fourth Street and Sycamore Street. He asked the council permission to replace the damaged siding with some metal. The council gave him the authority to proceed with this.

Anne Thompson asked what the 2020 census figure was. The city clerk reported that the 2020 census shows Dallas City's population at 805.

Doris Harman asked if there is any kind of ordinance regarding dog breeders in town. The council informed her that there is not.

Police Chief Gary Smith reported that the “Stuff the Squad” event for the collection of Christmas gifts for the needy children in the area will be November 30 at the Dollar General Store in Dallas City from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Police officer Foster is going to be attending a training course in the Quad Cities on November 30 and December 1. Chief Smith requested that the city pay for Officer Foster's hotel room on November 30. The council approved this.

Discussed giving the police officers a pay raise. This will be discussed more at the next meeting.

The Pontoosuc Township is in the process of getting the pile of old patch removed. The city is trying to find someone to move the old recycling bin to the old ready-mix property so it can be used for storage.

Discussed creating a snow route on Oak Street between the railroad crossing and the 4-way stop. The city attorney will be contacted to draw up the necessary ordinance.

Discussed the starting time of the city council meetings and possibly changing it. This will be discussed more at the next meeting.

A motion was made by Northup, and 2nd by Olson to adjourn the meeting. McDowell, Newberry, Northup, Olson, and Six AYE.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:28 p.m.
