Brown County Community Unit School District 1 Board met March 21.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the Board of Education was held at 6:00 p.m. in the Brown County Middle School library. The meeting was called to order by Heath Fullerton. The minutes were recorded by McKenzie Taute.

Roll call: Fullerton, yea; Blaesing, yea; Blakeley, yea; Hughes, yea; Eichelberger, yea; Koch, yea; Boylen, yea.

Attendance: Lan Eberle, Pollee Craven, Alex Ebbing, Sally Ruble, McKenzie Taute, Tracy Conley, Kris Gallaher, Steve Schuwerk, Ainsley Hills, Jennifer Barfield, Johnny Barfield, Jonathon Barfield.

Public comment:

Brian Frericks, consultant for QFB Energy, addressed the board regarding solar opportunities offered by his company.

Visitors:

Mr. Ebbing recognized Brown County Middle School student of the month, Ainsley Hills. Ebbing said Hills was nominated by Mr. Llewellyn who noted that Hills was a model student, hard worker, and leader amongst her peers.

Mrs. Craven recognized Brown County High School student of the month, Jonathon Barfield. Craven said Barfield was nominated by Mrs. Miller who noted Barfield had shown huge growth as a student throughout the year. Craven went on to say Mrs. Miller also mentioned Barfield’s exceptional work and contribution to the classroom.

Correspondence:

Fullerton thanked The Crossing for their donation of $1500.00 to athletics and the music program, Dot Foods and Tammy Still for their donation of $400 to the music program and Brown County State Bank for their monthly affinity card donation in the amount of $517.18.

Reports: Mrs. Craven mentioned that the ACES team recently competed and had three members place, two have advanced to state.

Motion by Fullerton, seconded by Blakeley, to approve the 2022-2023 IHSA membership renewal:

The board discussed a proposal from Bemis Lawn Care for lawn maintenance. The lawn maintenance contract was tabled as the board requested more information regarding pricing and services.

The board tabled the solar proposal from Future Green. This will be reviewed again at a future meeting.

Motion by Fullerton, seconded by Boylen, to enter closed session at 6:23 p.m. for the following subjects: a) the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the School District; b) collective negotiating matters between the School District and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees.
