City of Dallas City City Council met April 27.

The Dallas City City Council held its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. In the absence of Mayor Kevin Six, Finance Commissioner Peggy Newberry called the meeting to order with the following commissioners present: Carole McDowell, Peggy Newberry, Harold Northup Jr., and Greg Olson.
Others attending the meeting were Anne Thompson, Ronald Sell, Ann Miller, and Tracy Markey.
A motion was made by Northup, and 2nd by Olson to accept the minutes of the April 13, 2022, meeting. McDowell, Newberry, Northup, and Olson AYE. Six ABSENT.
Anne Thompson discussed the old cleaners building on Oak Street next to the railroad tracks. This will be discussed with the city attorney at the next meeting.
Tracy Markey discussed the sewer lagoon. He requested permission to talk to Keith Durand and ask him to connect a hose to his trucks when they are being unloaded into the lagoon to help stop the eroding of the dirt. The council gave Mr. Markey permission to speak to Mr. Durand about this. He also asked the council to allow him to place grease blocks in the lift stations to help them from getting plugged up. The council agreed to this.
Ronald Sell asked about the possibility of putting in water and sewer lines along West First Street, east of Spruce Street. He also asked about the financial side of installing these lines. The city engineer is supposed to be checking on this, but he has not gotten back to the city yet.
Ann Miller discussed a street light at the intersection of West First Street and Pine Street that is burnt out. The police chief will report this to Ameren Illinois to get it fixed. She also submitted a request from Matt and Miriam Miller to block off Oak Street from Third Street to the alley next to Vorhies Insurance on May 30, 2022, from Noon to 8 p.m. so that they can host a block party that day. A motion was made by Northup, and 2nd by McDowell to grant Matt and Miriam Miller permission to block off Oak Street from Third Street to the alley next to Vorhies Insurance on May 30, 2022, from Noon to 8 p.m. McDowell, Newberry, Northup, and Olson AYE. Police Chief Gary Smith reported on the funeral procession that will take place next Wednesday, May 4, 2022, for Navy Fireman 1st Class George F. Price. Mr. Price was originally from Dallas City and died on the USS Oklahoma during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He had been listed as Missing In Action until his remains were recently identified. Mr. Price's funeral procession will depart the Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City and proceed to the Harris Cemetery just outside of Dallas City.
Discussed the bathrooms at the boat dock. The city engineer is working on this. Commissioner McDowell is working on the flowers and landscaping around the flag pole at city hall.
Discussed making a donation to the Dallas City Celebration Committee for their fireworks this year. It was decided to contact the celebration committee's liaison and ask her to attend the next meeting and report on what they need.
Discussed the old Legion Hall. The property owner recently passed away, and therefore, the court date regarding this property had to be re-scheduled.
Discussed what is remaining of the pile of old patch by the recycling container. The Pontoosuc Township still wants what is left, but their person has been busy and just hasn't gotten it yet.
Commissioner Northup reported that the John Shoemate Memorial Kids Fishing Tournament is going to be held on May 21, 2022. He asked for the city to sponsor this so that the city's liability insurance would cover them. The council agreed to do this.
Discussed having a spring clean-up.
Discussed trying to find someone that would be willing to bring in a trailer once a month for residents to dispose of things like appliances that Jackson Disposal will not take as part of the garbage service.
McDonough Telephone Company has been in town recently to install fiber optic service for the Bank of Stronghurst. The company's workers originally were informing people that they would be making their services available to the city's residents. However, now they have decided to only do the bank for right now. It is not known if they are planning to come back into town at a later date or not.
Discussed a tree at the sewer lagoon that needs to be cut down. It was decided to have the streets employee check on this to see if he will be able to cut it down or not.
Commissioner Newberry opened bids for the removal of the old roof on the building at the sewer lagoon and replacing it with a new metal roof, and new toilets for the restrooms at the boat dock.
