In a July 30 Facebook post, Rep. Randy Frese (R-Quincy) shared his experience at the Adams County Fair. The fair started on July 22 and wrapped on Aug. 2.
Attendees had the chance to witness and take part in a variety of pageants, livestock showings and judging, bareback and saddle bronc busting, and many other events throughout the week.
"Ronda and I enjoyed a delicious lemon shake-up, kettle corn, and ice cream all while having fun at the Adams County Fair!" Frese posted on July 30. "It’s a beautiful night and the sweet corn was excellent as well! Hope you have the chance to stop by for all of the wonderful things Adams County has to offer."
The Adams County Fair started as a one-day event in 1941 and has expanded into a multi-day event with a wide range of exhibitions and livestock showings, music, rodeo-related activities and more. The event was originally limited to the actual "square" in Mendon before moving to the grounds of the high school in 1942, where it remained until 1950. In 1950 fair board members purchased 30 acres of land at the fair's current location south of Mendon. An additional 50 acres was purchased later at the north side of the grounds.
