City of Barry City Council met July 5

City of Barry City Council met July 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor Rennecker called the regular monthly meeting of the Barry City Council to order at 7 p.m. He then led all present in the Pledge of Allegiance. All elected officials were present except Bridget Cramsey.

Steve Schultz made a motion to approve the minutes from the June meeting and Justin Puterbaugh seconded the motion. Motion carried with 5 ayes, o nays and 1 absent. Bob Dieker made a motion to approve payment of the bills and Steve Schultz seconded the motion. Motion carried with 5 ayes, 0 nays and 1 absent.

Robert Snyder gave the Public Works Director report. Robert said they have been starting at 6 a. m. because of the heat. Two of the aerators at the lagoon have quit. Steve Schultz asked if we need to replace original piping for lagoons, need oxygen in the water. Bob Dieker said we feed bugs to lagoon to kill bacteria. Robert stated they started on basketball goals and put the backboards up. Joey Fesler got 2 tall poles for lights for the new basketball court. Need to get trenched in and will be ready to hook up. Shawn Rennecker asked striping the concrete to look like basketball court. They have been mowing and doing some patching, the bandstand trim is starting to rot. We have some pieces and think we can stick back up and paint. Steve Schultz asked where we stand on Lloyd Phillips driveway cement wall. Robert said it needs to be removed and a new one put back in. Robert said we will remove it but it is his responsibility to put back in. Jeff Hogge gave the City Administrator report. Jeff stated that he, Robert and Jeremy met with representative from Municipal Equipment Company about the replacement pump motor for the lift station. He also met with Right of Way Roofing for a bid on museum roof. They just finished doing a roof on the old show building and attended PCEDC meeting in Pittsfield.

Museum HVAC bids were discussed. There were two bids from Brian Bower, one was 24000 BTU $5947 and the seconded one was a 48000 BTU for $9232.50 and one bid from Peters 100,000 BTU forced air $17,760. Scott Harris said he would go with heat pump. Bob Dieker made a motion to go with Bower Electric and need by Labor Day. Steve Schultz seconded the motion. Roll call taken:

Motion carried with 5 ayes, 0 nays and 1 absent to go with Bower Electric in the amount of $9232.50.

Mayor Rennecker discussed the Holiday schedule. The state has added two new holidays – Juneteenth and Election Day in November. Mayor Rennecker stated that he gave the employees two extra holidays off this year. They were Good Friday and Juneteenth Day. He asked council what they thought about the two new holidays the state has approved. Steve Schultz said he was not in favor of Election Day but ok with Good

Friday and Juneteenth Day. Steve Schultz made a motion to approve adding the two Holidays and Marynel Corton seconded the motion. Motion carried with 5 ayes, 0 nays and 1 absent.

Mayor Rennecker said we have two donation requests. The Barry Apple Festival requested $500 for Jonathon Apple sponsor and the YMCA requested $5000 sponsor. Steve Schultz made a motion to approve both requests and Scott Harris seconded the motion. Roll call taken:

Motion carried with 5 ayes, 0 nays and 1 absent to approve both donation requests. Cindy Galinis (Tiny’s Place) has applied for a TIF Interior Rehabilitation grant for HVAC system for the annex next to her building. The material and equipment will be $10,458.00. Bob Dieker made a motion to approve the grant and Steve Schultz seconded the motion. Roll call taken:

Motion carried with 5 ayes, 0 nays and 1 absent.

There were no bids on the old sewer jetter. Robert mentioned putting it on IL Rural Water Sale sight.

The City received two bids on the 2004 dump truck. $1600 bid from Herb Rennecker and a $1200 bid from Daryl Robertson. Steve Schultz made a motion to accept the $1600 bid from Herb Rennecker and Justin Puterbaugh seconded the motion. Motion carried with 5 ayes, 0 nays and 1 absent.

Jeff Hogge said we had two bids on the roof at the Library/ Museum. Full replacement of the roof would be $120,000 and the Conklin system from Right Rate Roofing for $25,962.76 and has an 18 year warranty. Steve Schultz asked if 18 year warranty go with the contractor that applies or will the Company back it up. Steve Schultz said we need to investigate contingent on answers from main company. Steve Schultz made a motion to proceed pending on answers from company and Scott Harris seconded the motion. Roll call taken:

Mayor Rennecker discussed the final payment request to Lake Construction for the Ascend Water Line Construction project. 5% of money had been held pending completion of the project. The final payment is $21,097.98. Marynel Corton made a motion to approve final payment and Justin Puterbaugh seconded the motion. Roll call taken:

Motion carried with 5 ayes, 0 nays and 1 absent.

Mayor Rennecker said he checked into pool robot from Roman Pools and the cost is $2100. It is a Dolphin M600. Laura wondered if they could stay open later in the year. Robert would have to check to make sure we can get chemicals. Scott Harris said it isn’t feasible for the amount that it costs to run. Laura would like to paint office over the white paint. Justin would like to know what they are painting.

Steve Schultz made a motion to adjourn and Marynel Corton seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned at 9:01 p. m.
