Blueboys Win Conference Opener Over Cornell Led By Buzz Ritzel
The Illinois College men's basketball team hosted Cornell College in their Midwest Conference opener. The team picked up a big win over the Rams with a final score of 70-53. This advances the Blueboys to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the MWC.
Buzz Ritzel was the standout for the Blueboys leading the team with a career-high 21 points. He finished the game shooting 8-11 from the field and 4-6 from beyond the arc. Nestor Daboin led the team with 11 rebounds in the contest.
The team got off to a hot start jumping to a seven point lead in the first three minutes of the game. A made three-pointer by Henry Hayer would put IC ahead 27-11 with 6:10 left in the first half. IC reached their largest lead of the day after a made layup by Ritzel put the Blueboys ahead 52-27. The Blueboys would hang on to pick up the win in their first conference game of the season.
The team will continue conference play hosting Ripon College on Saturday, 12/3 at 3:00 PM.
