City of Jacksonville Commission on Disabilities & Human Relations met Oct. 6.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

Present: Peggy Davidsmeyer, (Chair), David Bauer (Vice Chair), Ruth Lanier, Dan Thompson, Eddie Lowe (Secretary), Brandie Belford, Sarah Robinson, Mary Watts

Absent: Guy Crumley

WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER 4:14 PM

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Motion: To approve the minutes of July 2022

Carried: Unanimous

Presentation by Morgan County Emergency Management.

• Tiffany Pranger and Phil McCarty recently met with the new Red Cross director to discuss fire safety month and the new Home Fire Safety Campaign. This campaign offers free smoke detectors with installation. These detectors have features that provide a strobe alert and bed shaking function to accommodate the deaf and blind community. Peggy will canvas JACIL’s community sources to determine need

PUBLIC COMMENT

• None

OLD BUSINESS

• Morgan County Housing Authority ramp - Peggy drove by the new office and a newly constructed ramp is in the front of the building.

• The road sign honoring Dr Kenniebrew has been corrected.

• Dan continues his work on Braille menus for local eateries.

NEW BUSINESS

• Uber/Lyft Service

Peggy talked with the Mayor and he reports that no one from Jacksonville has applied to Uber or Lyft to provide services. Members will investigate and report back at the next meeting.

MISCELLANEOUS

• Next meeting date: November 3, 2022
