In a Feb. 21 Facebook post, Illinois state Rep. Travis Weaver celebrated Future Farmers of America (FFA) Week.
Weaver supports the organization as a representative of the 93rd District since January 2023, according to the Illinois General Assembly website.
"Happy #NationalFFAWeek to all Illinois and nationwide FFA students and chapters!" Weaver wrote. "Your dedication to agriculture and leadership is admirable, and ensures all of us can rely on healthy and nutritious food to be on our tables every single day."
The FFA was formed in 1928, according to its website. The organization has three levels: local chapters, state associations, and the National FFA Organization.
When the Illinois FFA was founded, State Supervisor of Agriculture Education, J.E. Hill, mentioned the program to teachers at a state teachers' convention. Nearly 1,500 students and advisors showed up in June to create the Illinois FFA.
In celebration of FFA Week, the organization shared some supervised agriculture experiences in a Facebook post Feb. 19.
“Happy FFA Week Illinois FFA!" the post read. "The Major State Officer Team is kicking the week off with SAE Sunday. We have all shared a glimpse of what our Supervised Agriculture Experiences are like, and we encourage you to do the same! Keep a lookout for an SAE article to see all of the opportunities that come with a record book! #FFAWeek2023 #NationalFFAWeek #electrifyilffa.”
National FFA Week runs from Feb. 18-25.
