City of Waverly City Council met Nov. 6.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Courtroom 201. Committee Members present included Committee Chair Joe Erlandson, Vice Chair Ken Durkin, Eric Blakeley, Eric Chapman, Letha Clark, Travis Hiel, Michael Kirby, and Terra Litchfield. Other persons in attendance were Steve Hess, Patrick Stout, Ric Smart, Deborah Cousins, Sheriff Nick Petitgout, County Chair Scott Schwerer, and Deputy Clerk Stacey Alexander.

Chair Erlandson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Review & Approve October 2, 2023 Minutes

Member Durkin moved with a second by Member Chapman to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Waste Management Update

Report received and filed.

Tri-County Recycling

Report received and filed.

Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report

Ric Smart gave the report. Five Veterans were given assistance in October. Total assistance amounted to $752.00. Smart informed the Committee that Iowa City will be having a new women’s clinic within the next two years.

Sheriff’s Report

Sheriff Nick Petitgout gave the report. Sheriff Petitgout informed the Committee that he would like to start billing municipalities for transporting juveniles, or have the municipalities handle their transportation. County Chair Schwerer inquired as to whether or not we receive revenue on inmates. Petitgout said that we do when we house inmates for other Counties, which is mainly Warren and Henderson Counties. Member Litchfield asked Petitgout if the fees they will no longer be receiving will hurt us, Petitgout said it will for now but they will collect some later on.

Assessor’s Office Update

Assessor Deborah Cousins gave the report.

CO2 Pipeline Update

Chair Erlandson informed the Committee that Navigator has withdrawn their application with ICC and cancelled their project.

Claims Review and Approval

Member Chapman moved with a second by Member Clark to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Public Comment

Steve Hess provided some information on the ADM/Wolfe CO2 pipeline, he also thanked the Committee and County Board.

County Board Chair Comments

None.

Adjourn

Member Hiel moved with a second by Member Litchfield to adjourn the meeting at 7:27 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
