City of Barry City Council met Jan. 22.

Here is the agenda provided by the council:

Attendees: Jeff Hogge, Steve Schultz, Marynel Corton, Bridget Cramsey, Justin Puterbaugh, Shawn Rennecker, Remington Cramsey

Meeting opened at 6pm.

Shawn talked about the changes that needed to be made to the TIF Budget. The following items were proposed.

  • Add $30,000 for roof approved in previous year.
  • Adding $20,000 for Internal rehab for Phil Marshall building to aid in bringing new business.
  • Add $40,000 for Library tuckpointing.
  • Add $60,000 for Western School district for the construction of greenhouse.
  • Add $1,000 to Internal for Nancy Crim for her hair salon.
Motion to accept these changes was made by Steve Schultz and seconded by Bridget Cramsey.

Terry Epley, accountant for Arnold, Behrens, Nesbit, Gray P.C., made several suggestions for our bookkeeping in the future. These were minor changes but Mr. Epley highly suggested we make them. Steve Schultz made the motion to accept these suggestions in total. Justin Puterbaugh seconded the motion.

Shawn Rennecker next discussed the Police contract with Pike County. The council agreed that no patrol car will be provided by The City this contract. In addition, the council asked for more patrolling and better recording of hours spent patrolling in Barry. The mayor said there is a meeting being planned by the area mayors for a meeting to discuss the police situation. No action was taken on the contract at this time.

Discussion on the demolition contract with JAREN Industries Inc. to demolish the building at 844 Bainbridge. JAREN has made the suggestion for the City to condemn the building. The council also agreed to make a change to line 8 of the contract from stating the City will indemnify JAREN to JAREN indemnifying the City. Motion was made by Steve Schultz to condemn the building with Justin Puterbaugh seconding the motion.

No approval of the contract with JAREN Industries Inc was made at this time.

Shawn Rennecker talked about giving $20,000 to Phil Marshall from the TIF Internal Rehab Program for rehabbing the kitchen and bathrooms in preparation of a new restaurant moving into the building.  Steve Schultz made the motion to approve this $20,000 grant to Mr. Marshall with Briget Cramsey seconding the motion.
