City of Dallas City Council met Jan. 10.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The Dallas City City Council held its regular meeting on January 10, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. Mayor Kevin  Six called the meeting to order with the following commissioners present: Carole McDowell, Peggy  Newberry, Harold Northup Jr., and Greg Olson. 

Others attending the meeting were John Cechota, Tracy Markey, and Gary Smith. 

A motion was made by Olson, and 2nd by Newberry to accept the minutes of the December 27, 2023,  meeting. McDowell, Newberry, Olson, and Six AYE. Northup ABSTAIN. 

A motion was made by McDowell, and 2nd by Olson to pay bills. McDowell, Newberry, Northup,  Olson, and Six AYE. 

Tracy Markey reported that approximately 60% of the water lines that need to be inspected for the Lead Service Line Project have been done. He also reported that he has received both the impeller for the  pump in the sewer lift station by the elevator and the conductor for the sewer lagoon. 

John Cechota asked about the Lead Service Line Project and if the city has any records of how old the  service lines are in town. The council informed him that the city has records of when the water mains  were put in, but no records regarding the service lines to each house or business. 

Police Chief Gary Smith gave his report for the month of December. The new equipment has been  installed on the police cars for the body worn cameras. The deployment date is January 23, 2024. The  new laptop computer that was ordered did not work properly, so it has been sent back and another one  ordered. The new workstation has been completed and the new computer is scheduled to be delivered  on January 17, 2024. 

Commissioner Olson discussed getting more salt/sand for the city streets. Due to the recent snow  storm and the forecasted upcoming ice/snow storm, we are going to be needing more very soon. The  Henderson County Highway Department will be contacted to see if they have any available. 

Discussed contacting Ameren Illinois again regarding their property on the north side of East First  Street from Oak Street to the recreation park, and seeing if they would be willing to sell it to the city. 

Discussed purchasing storm sirens for the city. 

Discussed vacant city cemetery plots. Commissioner Newberry has checked with Harris Cemetery and found out that they currently sell their plots for $150. It was decided to contact the person that is  interested in purchasing plots in the city cemetery and let him know that the price is $150 per plot. 

Discussed the mowing of the city cemetery this year. It was decided to contact Nicholas Hellyer and  see if he is interested in mowing the cemetery again this year, and if so, what the cost would be for the  2024 mowing season. 

Commissioner Northup reported that he has called the welder dealer twice, but the person that he needs to talk to was not in and has not returned his calls. He will try calling him again. 

Discussed the city's Snow Emergency Ordinance and possibly making some amendments to it. This  will be discussed more at the next meeting.

A motion was made by Northup, and 2nd by Olson to adjourn the meeting. McDowell, Newberry,  Northup, Olson, and Six AYE. 

The meeting was adjourned at 6:37 p.m.
