State Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer of the 100th District recently recognized nine-year-old free throw shooter Jacob Williams at the State Capitol for his impressive performance at the Elks Grand Lodge National Hoop Shoot Championship in Illinois. The young athlete, who is a student at Winchester Elementary School in rural Scott County and the son of Sean and Katie Williams, secured third place by making 22 out of 25 shots. He then broke a tie with two other competitors in a shoot-out, where he successfully made all five shots.

During his remarks on the House Floor, Rep. Davidsmeyer praised Jacob's accomplishments. He noted that Jacob had earned his place at the National Championship by previously placing first at several competitions including the Jacksonville Elks Hoop Shoot, the District Hoop Shoot in Jacksonville, the Illinois Hoop Shoot in Springfield, and the Regional Hoop Shoot competition in Iowa City, Iowa.

Jacob started playing basketball when he was just four years old, following a family tradition established by his brother, father, and grandfather who all played when they were younger.

The full text of House Resolution 726 recognizing Jacob's achievements can be found online. More information about the Elks National Hoop Shoot program is also available on their official website.
