McDonough County Building & Grounds/Elms Committee met May 14.

The Elms/Building and Grounds Committee met on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 6:03 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Courtroom 201. Committee Members in attendance included Vice Chair Terra Litchfield, Dustin Berg, Dave Cortelyou, Mike Cox, Vicky Kipling, Clayton Murphy, and Dana Walker. Chair Larry Aurelio was absent. Others in attendance included Chad Wilson, Patrick Stout, Elms Administrator Jeff Howd, County Chair Scott Schwerer, and Deputy Clerk Deanna Crawford.
Vice Chair Terra Litchfield called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m.
Review and Approval of April 9, 2024 Minutes
Member Kipling moved with a second by Member Walker to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.
Farm Report
County Chair Schwerer announced that we had 1 ¼” of rain.
Administrator’s Report
Elms Administrator gave the report. Census is at 68, with 11 being Medicare, 40 being Medicaid and, 17 private-pay. Medicare currently owes $330,594.89. There were 39 admissions, and 39 discharges. Howd informed the Committee that he is still running employment ads and that he is using agencies for nurses. The State did an inspection of the Elms building, the results were brutal but they are working on the most severe problems, this was not a typical inspection that is normally done. Renovations have been completed.
Financial Report
Member Cox moved with a second by Member Kipling to approve the April, 2024 Financial Reports. Motion carried on a voice vote.
Elms Claims
Member Kipling moved with a second by Member Murphy to approve the Elm’s claims as submitted. Motion carried with a roll call vote of 7 yeas, 0 nays, 0 vacant and 1 absent.
Macomb Public Building Commission
Chad Wilson informed the Committee that they are making a mural out of melted bottle caps.
McDonough County Maintenance Directors Report
Chad Wilson gave the report. They have replaced a faucet in the women’s restroom, they have the accounting office all moved up to the 3rd floor, so the basement is ready now. He informed the Committee that CAD Construction will be coming to look at the porch roofs and should be getting started on the South side of the Courthouse on May 28th. Wilson discussed that the maintenance assistant is off work and they may need to hire a temporary employee, Member Kipling had some questions on hiring someone. Wilson also discussed the work they did to get the outside ready for the Monopoly revealing.
Building and Grounds Claims
Member Cortelyou moved with a second by Member Walker to approve the April, 2024 Building and Grounds Claims. Motion carried on a voice vote.
Other
County Chair Schwerer informed the Committee that there is a meeting tomorrow for Board Members regarding nursing homes.
County Board Chair Comments
County Chair Schwerer informed the Committee that he had a good meeting with CAD Construction. They will be taking out the chimney and starting work on the South side of the Courthouse. Member Kipling inquired as to when the work is supposed to be completed, and she commented that the Courthouse is really starting to look good.

Member Berg moved with a second by Member Kipling to adjourn the meeting at 6:37 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
