Dozens of fishermen and fisherwomen participated in the First Annual Fishing Derby Event hosted by State Senator Neil Anderson (R-Andalusia) and Representative Norine Hammond (R-Macomb) on Saturday, June 15th. The event took place at Giant Goose Ranch, an 840-acre recreational area in Canton that features over 50 lakes and ponds, trails, and camping facilities.

“It was a great day to see so many of our kids and their parents enjoying the outdoors while competing against one another in this free family fun event,” said Senator Anderson.

Representative Hammond expressed gratitude to participants, stating, “I want to thank everyone for coming out and taking part in this event at a unique place that we are lucky to have in the district.”

The first 50 children who attended received a free fishing rod/reel combo courtesy of the Future Anglers Foundation. Additionally, the Illinois Conservation Police provided a water/boat safety presentation. Awards were given for the biggest fish, most fish caught, and sportsmanship.
